TakeRoot presents: een mix van americana, folk en country
Dat Dylan LeBlanc zou uitgroeien tot een knettergoeie singer-songwriter stond in de sterren geschreven. Zijn vader James LeBlanc was een van de vaste sessiemuzikanten bij de bekende Muscle Shoals Studios, waar artiesten als The Staple Singers, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Otis Redding en Wilson Pickett hun muziek opnamen. In dezelfde studio nam Dylan ook zijn uit 2016 stammende doorbraakalbum Cautionary Tale op, dat vol staat met ingetogen en fraai gezongen sixties folk, soul, altcountry en West Coast pop.
In 2010 levert LeBlanc op negentienjarige leeftijd een ijzersterk debuut af met Pauper Fields. Niet lang daarna zinkt hij echter weg in een duistere periode vol zelfhaat en drank. Met het eerder genoemde Cautionary Tale maakt hij een glorieuze comeback, met opvolger Renegade plaatst hij zich in 2019 definitief in het rijtje van meest getalenteerde liedjesschrijvers van zijn generatie. Het album tekent ook een koerswijziging. De dromerige, sfeervolle stijl die LeBlanc op eerdere releases had geperfectioneerd, krijgt een flink shot adrenaline, met als resultaat een heerlijke plaat vol radio- en hitlijstvriendelijke, Amerikaanse jaren 70-pop.
Het meest recente werk van LeBlanc is Coyote, zijn eerste zelfgeproduceerde album, opgenomen met een selectie van wat hij zelf omschrijft als “killer sessiespelers,” waaronder drummer Fred Eltringham (Ringo Starr, Sheryl Crow), pianist Jim “Moose” Brown (Bob Seger) en bassist Seth Kaufman (Lana Del Rey). Hoewel Coyote voor LeBlanc bekend terrein verkent—het leven aan de rand van gevaar en de gevolgen daarvan—is het zowel een autobiografisch album als een conceptalbum, opgebouwd rond het karakter van Coyote, een man op de vlucht.
Dylan LeBlanc was afgelopen november 2023 al te horen tijdens de 25e editie van het TakeRoot Festival in De Oosterpoort. Heaven Magazine schreef over dit optreden: “Hij onderscheidt zich als een formidabel maar allesbehalve zelfzuchtige leadgitarist, die zijn groep naar een opwindend festivaleinde leidt.”

Singer-songwriter Johnny Delaware brengt zijn dromerige indie en folk naar Groningen. Na jaren rondzwerven tussen Nashville, Austin en Charleston werd Mexico-Stad zijn thuisbasis, waar hij zich liet inspireren door de cultuur en muziek.
Zijn nieuwe album Para Llevar is opgenomen in Mexico, de VS en hotelkamers door heel Latijns-Amerika. De invloeden van Laurel Canyon en psychedelische folk zijn duidelijk hoorbaar, net als zijn eigen groei als muzikant en producer. Delaware bespeelde bijna alle instrumenten zelf en brengt op het podium een intieme sfeer met ruimtelijke arrangementen en zijn warme stem. Na een succesvolle periode als frontman van Susto en samenwerkingen met The Lumineers en Band of Horses keert hij terug naar zijn solowerk, met een album dat draait om beweging, zelfontdekking en verbinding.

That Dylan LeBlanc would grow into a cracking singer-songwriter was written in the stars. His father James LeBlanc was one of the regular session musicians at the famous Muscle Shoals Studios, where artists such as The Staple Singers, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett recorded their music. In the same studio, Dylan also recorded his 2016 breakthrough album Cautionary Tale, which is full of understated and beautifully sung 1960s folk, soul, alt-country and West Coast pop.
In 2010, at the age of nineteen, LeBlanc delivered a rock-solid debut with Pauper Fields. Not long after, however, he sinks into a dark period filled with self-hatred and booze. With the aforementioned Cautionary Tale he makes a glorious comeback, with successor Renegade in 2019 he definitely places himself in the ranks of the most talented songwriters of his generation. The album also marks a change in direction. The dreamy, atmospheric style that LeBlanc had perfected on previous releases gets a big shot of adrenaline, resulting in a delightful record full of radio and chart-topping, American ’70s pop.
LeBlanc’s most recent work is Coyote, his first self-produced album, recorded with a selection of what he himself describes as “killer session players,” including drummer Fred Eltringham (Ringo Starr, Sheryl Crow), pianist Jim “Moose” Brown (Bob Seger) and bassist Seth Kaufman (Lana Del Rey). Although Coyote explores familiar territory for LeBlanc-living on the edge of danger and its consequences-it is both an autobiographical album and a concept album, built around the character of Coyote, a man on the run.
Dylan LeBlanc was featured last November 2023 at the 25th edition of the TakeRoot Festival at De Oosterpoort. Heaven Magazine wrote of this performance, “He stands out as a formidable but anything but selfish lead guitarist, leading his band to an exhilarating festival ending.”

Singer-songwriter Johnny Delaware brings his dreamy indie and folk to Groningen. After years of wandering between Nashville, Austin and Charleston, Mexico City became his home base, where he was inspired by the culture and music.
His new album Para Llevar was recorded in Mexico, the U.S. and hotel rooms throughout Latin America. Laurel Canyon influences and psychedelic folk are clearly audible, as is his own growth as a musician and producer. Delaware played almost all the instruments himself and brings an intimate atmosphere on stage with spacious arrangements and his warm voice. After a successful period as frontman of Susto and collaborations with The Lumineers and Band of Horses, he returns to his solo work, with an album that revolves around movement, self-discovery and connection
