Van eigenzinnige latin/pop zanger naar een introspectieve singer-songwriter

From quirky Latin/Pop singer to an introspective singer-songwriter

Gabriel Ríos, geboren in San Juan, Puerto Rico, verhuisde op 17-jarige leeftijd naar België om schilderkunst te studeren aan de Luca School of Arts in Gent. Na in verschillende bands te hebben gespeeld en een reeks singles op te nemen, maakte hij in 2003 naam met zijn eerste album Ghostboy met daarop megahit Broad Day Light. In samenwerking met artiesten zoals Jo Bogaert (Technotronic), jazzpianist Jef Neve, Kobe Proesmans (The Colorist Orchestra) en multi-instrumentalist/producer Ruben Samama, heeft Ríos een reeks eclectische albums uitgebracht.

Zijn muzikale reis heeft hem geleid van een eigenzinnige Latin/Pop zanger (Ghostboy) naar een introspectieve singer-songwriter (This Marauder’s Midnight). Zijn meest recente album, Flore, bevat een verzameling heruitgevonden Latijns-Amerikaanse klassiekers en enkele originele nummers, waaronder een samenwerking met Devendra Banhart. Met zijn nieuwste album, Playa negra, verkent Ríos verder het gotische Caribische geluid dat Flore kenmerkte.

Gabriel Ríos, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, moved to Belgium at the age of 17 to study painting at the Luca School of Arts in Ghent. After playing in various bands and recording a string of singles, he made a name for himself in 2003 with his first album Ghostboy, which included the megahit “Broad Day Light.” Collaborating with artists such as Jo Bogaert (Technotronic), jazz pianist Jef Neve, Kobe Proesmans (The Colorist Orchestra), and multi-instrumentalist/producer Ruben Samama, Ríos has released a series of eclectic albums.

His musical journey has taken him from a quirky Latin/Pop singer (Ghostboy) to an introspective singer-songwriter (This Marauder’s Midnight). His most recent album, Flore, features a collection of reinvented Latin American classics and several original songs, including a collaboration with Devendra Banhart. With his latest album, Playa negra, Ríos further explores the gothic Caribbean sound that characterized Flore.
