Punk rock-icoon van Rollins Band en Black Flag komt met vlijmscherpe theatershow
Vaak mondt het beschrijven van Henry Rollins uit in de neiging om zoveel mogelijk labels in een zin te persen. “Rollins is veel”, aldus The Washington Post, “provocateur, humorist, motivational speaker…” Entertainment Weekly voegt er aan toe: “Punk Rock-icoon. Spoken word-artiest. Acteur. Auteur. DJ. Is er iets wat deze man niet kan?” TV Guide is daarin beknopt en noemt hem een ‘Renaissance Man’, maar als de beschrijving van Henry Rollins tot een enkel woord kon worden teruggebracht, moet dat woord wel ‘workaholic’ zijn.
Als hij niet op reis is, houdt Rollins het liefst een meedogenloos schema aan vol met werk: als acteur, auteur, DJ, voice-over artiest en tv-presentator, om maar een paar van de rollen te noemen. Rollins heeft de wereld rondgereisd als spoken word-artiest, als frontman van zowel de Rollins Band als Black Flag en als een eenzame reiziger met onverzadigbare nieuwsgierigheid, waarbij hij graag wegblijft van de gebaande paden in plaatsen zoals Nepal, Sri Lanka, Siberië, Noord-Korea, Zuid-Soedan en Iran.

Trying to accurately describe Henry Rollins usually means trying to squeeze as many labels as possible into one sentence. “Rollins is a lot,” writes The Washington Post, “provocateur, humourist, motivational speaker…” Entertainment Weekly adds, “Punk Rock icon. Spoken word artist. Actor. Author. DJ. Is there anything this man can’t do?” TV Guide, more succinctly, calls him a “Renaissance Man,” but if Henry Rollins’ description could be reduced to a single word, that word must be “workaholic.”
Rollins travels the world not only as a spoken word artist and frontman to both the Rollins Band and Black Flag, but also as an insatiably curious globetrotter, happily straying off the beaten track in places such as Nepal, Sri Lanka, Siberia, North-Korea, South Sudan and Iran. When he’s not traveling, Rollins prefers to stick to a relentless work-schedule: as an actor, author, DJ, voiceover artist and TV host, to name but a few.
