Vanaf zijn debuut-EP is Jeangu Macrooy niet meer weg te denken uit de Nederlandse muziekscene: hij wordt 3FM talent, staat op Noorderslag en is genomineerd voor de Edison Pop als Beste Nieuwkomer. De gelauwerde singer-songwriter komt met een akoestische vertolking van zijn kleurrijke repertoire naar De Nieuwe Kerk.
Sinds zijn deelname aan het Eurovisie Songfestival is duidelijk wat Jeangu Macrooy zijn publiek brengt: een krachtige, maar ook kwetsbare stem met aandacht voor zijn Surinaamse roots. Hiermee weet hij het publiek elke keer opnieuw te betoveren. In de rockmusical Jesus Christ Superstar vertolkt Macrooy de rol van Jezus, waarmee meerdere lovende vijf-sterren recensies zijn behaald. Hierdoor kan hij ook een nominatie voor ‘beste mannelijke hoofdrol in een grote musical’ toevoegen aan zijn arsenaal. Jeangu brengt deze avond zijn eigen soulvolle nummers in een intieme setting, begeleid door pianist Patrick Rugebregt en drie achtergrondzangeressen van het ZO! Gospel Choir.
The musical journey of singer-songwriter Jeangu Macrooy began when he moved from Suriname to the Netherlands in 2014 to pursue his ambitions. From the release of his debut EP Brave Enough, he quickly rose to the top of the Dutch music scene: he was named 3FM Talent, performed at Noorderslag, and was nominated for the Edison Pop Award for Best Newcomer.
Since his participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, it’s clear what Jeangu Macrooy brings to his audience: a powerful yet vulnerable voice, with a deep connection to his Surinamese roots. He captivates listeners time and again. In the rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar, Macrooy takes on the role of Jesus, earning him a nomination for ‘Best Male Lead in a Major Musical.’ This time, Jeangu will perform his own songs in an intimate setting, accompanied by pianist Patrick Rugebregt and three background vocalists from the ZO! Gospel Choir. This acoustic concert offers a unique opportunity to experience his music up close, accompanied by the warm sounds of piano and vocal harmonies.
