L’Arpeggiata is een must voor alle liefhebbers van springlevende oude muziek. Onder leiding van harpiste en luitiste Christina Pluhar speelt dit avontuurlijke Franse ensemble barok waar de vonken van afspatten. In Alla Napoletana neemt L’Arpeggiata je mee naar het bruisende en eigenzinnige Napels.
Tijdens eerdere bezoekjes aan De Oosterpoort lieten Pluhar en haar topmusici al horen hoe dicht barokmuziek en (mediterrane) volksmuziek elkaar kunnen naderen en hoe je leven blaast in het werk van grootheden als Händel en Purcell. Een jazzy improvisatie? Een vleugje klezmer? Bij L’Arpeggiata kan het allemaal.
De titel van dit programma en het gelijknamige, in 2021 verschenen album – Alla Napoletana, op zijn Napolitaans – verklapt al voor een groot deel wat je tijdens dit concert verwachten kan. L’Arpeggiata neemt je aan de hand van muziek van de 17e tot de 20e eeuw mee naar het bruisende en eigenzinnige Napels. Flarden opera, populaire volksliederen en dansen, het wordt allemaal zo fris en aanstekelijk gebracht dat het klinkt alsof de muziek gisteren is geschreven. Zoals Pluhar het zelf verwoord: “In Napels waren de grenzen tussen kunst- en volksmuziek, tussen de kerk, het hof en de straat lang niet zo scherp als elders. Ik hoop dat het gevoel van intens en bevrijdend plezier dat wij voelden tijdens de opname ook overspringt op de luisteraar!”

During previous visits to De Oosterpoort, Pluhar and her top musicians proved how closely baroque music and (Mediterranean) folk music can resemble each other and how one can breathe new life into the work of greats such as Händel and Purcell. The title of this program, based on their eponymous album, which was released in 2021 – Alla Napoletana, in Neapolitan – already largely reveals what you can expect. L’Arpeggiata takes you to bustling and idiosyncratic Naples through music from the 17th to the 20th century. Fragments of opera, popular folk songs and dance, it all sounds so fresh and infectious that it feels as if the music was written yesterday. As Pluhar herself puts it: ‘In Naples, the boundaries between art and folk music, between the church, the court and the street, were not nearly as sharply delineated as elsewhere. I hope that the feeling of the intense and liberating fun we felt during the recording also rubs off on the listener!’
