Rock music’s greatest female icon presents new material

Melissa Etheridge is één van rockmuziek’s grootste vrouwelijke iconen. Je kent de Amerikaanse singer-songwriter van nummers als I’m The Only One en Like The Way I Do.

Melissa, die altijd voorvechtster is geweest van mensenrechten, maakte in 1993 op grootse wijze korte metten met alle geruchten rondom haar seksuele voorkeuren. De plaat Yes, I Am sprak duidelijke taal. Op 9 juli staat ze in De Oosterpoort met haar meest recente materiaal: The Medicine Show!

Melissa Etheride’s nieuwste album The Medicine Show opent met veel power, luide gitaren en pulserende drums. Een album over vernieuwing, verzoening, afrekening, medeleven maar vooral genezing. Dit zijn de thema’s die tijdens Etheridge haar carrière speelden en haar levenswerk als activist voor onder andere mensenrechten, LHBTI-rechten, borstkanker-bewustzijn aanwakkerden. De nummers op The Medicine Show zijn geïnspireerd door momenten van vriendelijkheid, liefde, hardnekkigheid en dapperheid. Elk nummer op het album tackelt een maatschappelijk thema, of het nu over de opiumepidemie en schietpartijen op scholen in Amerika, of over mensen die samenkomen om anderen te helpen gaat.

Melissa Etheridge is one of rock music’s greatest female icons. The American singer-songwriter is known for songs as I’m The Only One and Like The Way I Do.

Melissa, who has always been a champion of human rights, majestically made short work of all the rumours about her sexual orientation in 1993. The track I Am was very clear. On 9 July she will bring new material to De Oosterpoort: The Medicine Show!

The Medicine Show

Melissa Etheridge’s newest album The Medicine Show starts with a lot of power, loud guitars and pulsating drums. It is an album about renewal, reconciliation, getting even and compassion, but above all about healing. These are recurring themes during Etheridge’s career and they have stimulated her life as an activist for among others human rights, LGBTI rights, breast cancer awareness. The tracks on The Medicine Show are inspired by moments of kindness, love, persistence and bravery. Every song on the album tackles a social theme, whether it is the opium epidemic and shootings in schools in America, or people getting together to help others.
