‘‘Music that feeds the heart and soothes the soul’’, daar draait muziek om wat betreft Michelle David. De afgelopen jaren zijn turbulent geweest voor de band, zowel positief als negatief. Michelle verloor enkele dierbaren, waaronder haar moeder en won de strijd tegen haar borstkanker. In de deze pittige tijd was het muziek die de kracht gaf om door te gaan en moeilijke momenten te overwinnen. In december zou de band al een bezoek aan Groningen brengen, maar dit kon helaas niet doorgaan. 26 november dit jaar, staan ze dan eindelijk in De Oosterpoort!
De band werd met hun voorgaande album The Gospel Sessions Vol. 3 onder andere genomineerd voor een Edison Award. Het sleutelwoord voor The Gospel Sessions Vol. 4 werd Victory!, een ode aan het leven. Toen in 2020 de wereld stil kwam te staan door covid-19, hield Michelle David & The True-tones ons warm met de prachtige concertreeks ‘Sunday Service’ in Paradiso Amsterdam, een livestream met bevriende artiesten als Jeangu Macrooy, Wende Snijders en Tim Knol om ons een hart onder de riem te steken. Met al deze gebeurtenissen van dat jaar achter de rug, werd het tijd voor feestelijke, triomfantelijke nummers en een goede dosis positiviteit.
Daarmee is Vol. 4 het meest kleurrijke en diverse album dat Michelle David & The True-tones tot nu toe maakte. De band houdt vast aan haar ware geluid maar blijft in ontwikkeling door op dit album meer te werken met strijkers, percussie, blazers en analogue synths, die de band complimenteren en compleet maken. ‘’Je goed voelen en jezelf de vrijheid gunnen om los te laten is zonder twijfel de basis van elk nummer. De ontwikkeling van Michelle David & The True-tones is inspirerend, opwindend en levens veranderend.” Zegt Michelle hierover.
‘Music that feeds the heart and soothes the soul’. As far as Michelle David is concerned, that is what music is all about. The past few years have been turbulent for the band, both in positive and negative ways. David won the battle against breast cancer, some of her loved ones passed away. In this tough time, it was music that gave her the strength to carry on.
The band was supposed to visit Groningen in December 2021, but unfortunately this couldn’t take place. November 26, they are finally in De Oosterpoort!
Their previous album, The Gospel Sessions Vol. 3 (2018), was nominated for an Edison award. The keyword for The Gospel Sessions Vol. 4 (2020) became Victory!, an ode to life. When the world came to a standstill in 2020 due to covid-19, Michelle David & The True-tones kept us warm with their beautiful online concert series Sunday Service in Paradiso Amsterdam, a livestream with artist friends such as Jeangu Macrooy, Wende Snijders and Tim Knol. The time called for festive, triumphant numbers and a healthy dose of positivity.
This makes Vol. 4 the most colorful and diverse album Michelle David & The True-tones made to date. The band sticks to its true sound but continues to evolve by adding more strings, percussion, horns and analogue synths, which compliment and complete the band. David: ‘Feeling good and giving yourself permission to let go form the basis of every song. The development of Michelle David & The True tones is inspiring, exciting and life changing.’
