Oriol Marès & Talal Fayad Quartet laten tijdens dit MENA-presents concert klassiek, jazz, Latin en Arabische tradities samenvloeien. Marès is een klarinettist en componist uit Barcelona, die tegenwoordig in Nederland woont. Vertrekkend vanuit een sterke passie voor latinjazz is hij altijd op zoek naar nieuwe artistieke samenwerkingen en onontdekte muzikale gebieden. De oorspronkelijk uit Syrië afkomstige Talal Fayad is componist én een geweldige bespeler van de ud. Vanuit hun verschillende culturele achtergronden zoeken beiden met eigen arrangementen en composities naar een gemeenschappelijk geluid, waarbij ook de andere musici worden uitnodigt uit hun muzikale comfortzone te stappen. Oriol Marès & Talal Fayad Quartet is daarmee een cross-over formatie die niet alleen voor een frisse wind binnen de jazzscene zorgt, maar tegelijk een mondiaal perspectief op de westerse klassieke canon biedt. Van 15 tot en met 24 mei 2025 viert Groningen de rijkheid en diversiteit van kunst en cultuur uit de MENA-regio MENA is here staat voor 10 dagen lang muziek, theater, dans, film, talks en culinaire ervaringen uit de regio Midden-Oosten en Noord-Afrika.
Oriol Marès & Talal Fayad Quartet merge classical, jazz, Latin and Arabic traditions at this MENA Presents concert. Marès is a clarinetist and composer from Barcelona, currently living in the Netherlands. Starting from a strong passion for Latin jazz, he is always looking for new artistic collaborations and undiscovered musical territories. Talal Fayad, originally from Syria, is both a composer and a great player of the ud. From their different cultural backgrounds, both seek a common sound with their own arrangements and compositions, inviting the other musicians to step out of their musical comfort zone. Oriol Marès & Talal Fayad Quartet is thus a crossover formation that not only provides a breath of fresh air within the jazz scene, but at the same time offers a global perspective on the Western classical canon.
